Amazingly, Sam telephoned to offer Mothers Day greetings

Today has been slightly better. It's Mothers Day, and also Rachel's birthday tomorrow. Mike drove down to Broomhill (I'm still having difficulty walking out on my own) and we met Rachel and Joanie for a mini-celebration in Costa. I'd taken some books to read to Joanie, and did so, so Mike and Rachel could have a good natter. I didn't feel well, but Joanie was happy, and that was the main thing

He was a decent bloke, and took my point. He said could he please have the telly on, and I said certainly. I had a lot of similar conversations, wth staff either gettng my point and offering me the proper courtesies, or getting huffy if they were the stupid sort

I was in the lounge on the ward late one night, and the TV was on. I wanted it off, and I was the only patient around, so I turned it off. One of the staff told me he wanted it on for the football. I said: "That TV is there for the benefit of the patients, not the staff. Right now, I constitute 100% of parients here, and I'd like some peace and quiet. I'm quite prepared to forego them, but only IF I AM ASKED NICELY."

She didn't. After I'd told her she was in the wrong job, she muttered something about animals being a distraction. Whether to her or her patients, I know not, and wasn't interested in knowing. But her whole approach was wrong. If there was a problem for her pertaining to pets, she should have started with "I'm awfully sorry, but.." and "please" and "thank you," That's the thing about being mentally ill - you aren't considered worthy of courtesy. I've seen a lot of that over the past 4 months, and I'm about sick of it

What if she did have an allergy?

As it happened, Mike was out with the dogs. As for the cats, I didn't even bother to look and see if they were in or out. I thought she could just put up with them if they were around
