It is, and it's a four hour flight due south, so the weather ought to be good. And, it's certainly better than here - it's nearer the Equator. But it's just a volcanic rock sticking out of the Atlantic, and it has to take anything the Atlantic throws at it. Wind. Rain. Hurricanes sometimes. Lanzarote in May and Sheffield now?

Yes, we could do that at some point, but I'd rather be in the country while work's are being done on the home, it makes me nervy. Why don't we go to St Pancras and take the first train up to Sheffield, and we can take the leftovers to the Cat Shelter. We can go to Lanzarote in May, when the weather's better.

I can sympathise with Yetta, she's doing her best according to how she understands family life ought to be.. But Beatrice is the frozen limit. Such a sense of entitlement, it makes me want to vomit. And the children - they are horrible as a result. And, Laetitia, I think they're riding for a fall. I can't foresee exactly how: but it's coming all right. Hey, Laetitia, I've had an idea Let's blow town for a while. Get the deep-cleaners in, and they can do their thing while we're away. I'm sure you can find a neighbour to let them in and out. And when we come back, maybe the rest of the city will have calmed down and will be a bit less hyper-critical How about Lanzarote?

Oh dear, it's been a trying 24 hours. Sergei getting us inebriated. Hangovers. The place in a deplorable state, in spite of our best efforts. Getting excoriated by both Yetta and Beatrice

Laetitia, we've been cleaning up for three hours now, and I've put all the salmon bits and other leftovers in Tupperware. But the place still smells of fish

Northern Ireland AND Brest? AARRGGHH

The problems are coming back again, now we've got Brexit but the Republic of Ireland is committed to staying in the EU. And the EU can't understand why there's a border between Northern Ireland and the Republic that is unmarked. It's too delicate a matter for the Eurocrats to understand

Not quite the same as Brexit: I did look into the problem, and I understood it. But it was clearly such a mess, going back for centuries, that it looked pretty much insoluble, except at a grass-roots level. Most importantly, I became convinced that there was nothing I could do to help. I resolved to ignore the whole issue, and leave it to the folks on the ground to sort themselves out, which I gather they eventually did. I thereby save myself a lot of time and trouble

Ah yes, poetically called The Troubles. What decided you to ignore that issue?
